A modern phrasebook · 60 languages
Don't show them your phone. Tell them.
The phrasebook for your next trip — except this one teaches you. Say a phrase in your language, learn to say it in theirs.
Talk
Talk to anyone, in either direction.
Lay the phone down and have the conversation anyway. It listens to both sides at once, translates as they speak, and says your answers out loud in their language.
Works in either direction — speak your own language and it's spoken aloud in theirs, or try a phrase you already know and it's logged as you said it. Nothing is recorded; only the lines you star are kept.
Phrasebook
Don't know what to say? Start from the ones we wrote for you.
Ten situations you'll actually be in. Tap any phrase and it drills exactly like one you recorded yourself — same word-by-word scoring, same 60 languages.

The honest comparison
A translator gets you through today. Nothing sticks.
Free translator apps are good, and you should keep one. But you'll hand over your phone for the same sentence on Tuesday that you handed it over for on Monday — because a translator has no memory of you, and no interest in whether you learn anything.
A translator app
- Reads the sentence out for you
- Forgets it the moment you close the tab
- You're the one holding the phone up
- Same help on day ten as day one
Mumbo
- Teaches you to say it yourself
- Keeps every phrase you've used
- Phone stays down; you do the talking
- By day ten you've stopped opening it for the basics
The measure of this app is how little you need it by the end of the trip.
Languages
60 languages supported — including the ones nobody teaches.
Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, Macedonian, Albanian, Basque, Welsh, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian are all here, highlighted below. We never author lesson content, so adding a language costs us nothing — and the gaps in every other app's catalogue are exactly where we start.
What we left out
No courses.
You pick the curriculum. Say the thing you actually need and we teach you that — nothing you'll never use.
No streaks.
Open it the week before a trip. Ignore it for six months. It'll be exactly where you left it.
No mascot.
Nothing to keep up with and nobody guilt-tripping you. It's a tool, not a pet.
